haori Kimono

A haori kimono is a kimono with a jacket.  The haori is a thigh-length jacket which adds a formal look to the outfit.  In the beginning, haori were worn only by men. 

They are now worn by both men and women, young and old, though the women’s haori are slightly longer.  Haori-himo is a tasseled, woven string fastener for the haori.  The most formal color is white for both men and women.
